CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – We are less than four months away from learning if Cedar Rapids is getting a casino.
The proposed casino in Cedar Rapids would be called ‘Cedar Crossing’ and Alex Dixon, the CEO and president of the Q Casino in Dubuque says he’s worried it could take away business.
”We’re very concerned about any casinos within our area, particularly anything that is happening here within our backyard or in Illinois or Wisconsin. It’s not really any one casino directly, it’s all of them combined. That really have the potential to have a negative impact here on Dubuque.”
Although he expressed concern for competition CEO Alex Dixon said he’s focused on making his casino stand out.
”We keep investing in our property because it seems to be competition, that seems to have the potential to grow weather it’s in state or out of state. We’re really focused on all the things that we can do to give our customers the best experience they can.”
The Q Casino is building a new seven story hotel, and remodeling its lower casino and entertainment area – in total a more than 80-million dollar expansion project.
“This year, we’re going to be opening up Island social, the family entertainment center. So people are going to be able to come and play the arcades, bowling, and ax throwing. We’re doing our part, we’re doing everything we can to invest in ourselves so we can really charge ahead and control our own destiny.”
With the moritorium on new casinos lifted, it’s likely there will be some kind of change in the landscape of gaming in Iowa – and Dixon’s bet is to stay competitive.
