LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Coushatta Casino Resort is celebrating 30 years of history with the Coushatta Tribe.
The casino’s long history was celebrated on this special day with tribal dances and a grand entry to showcase how far the Coushatta Tribe has come since the casino’s existence.
“It helped us substantially with self-sufficiency we’re able to take care of our elders, youth programs and education,” said Coushatta Tribe acting chairman Crystal Williams.
Williams says Coushatta has been able to give back to its community and help further develop Southwest Louisiana.
“It’s helped Allen Parish tremendously, and this area of Southwest Louisiana. We are so happy to help and be here and open up its doors, we have helped economically, careers are built here and we’re so happy to celebrate thirty years,” said Williams.
The casino was established in 1995.
“So 30 years ago this was a rice field and a little two-lane road that was out in front of the casino it has now grown into the largest casino and resort in Louisiana,” said Coushatta General Manager Todd Stewart.
Williams says she never could have imagined what this partnership would become.
“We didn’t know we would end up here but here we stand,” said Williams. “We have built this huge casino resort and property with several hotels with one on the way, and several restaurants, we’re just so proud.”
