WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A new scam is emerging on social media, impersonating various casinos such as the Kansas Star, Winstar, and Prairie Band. These fraudulent ads can be found on Facebook feeds and utilize official logos and images of the casinos, falsely claiming that the casino is now online.
The ads promise a welcome bonus of up to $1,500 if individuals click on the website link at the bottom or download the casino’s app. However, a clear indication that these ads are scams is that the website listed is not the actual casino website.
For example, in a fake ad that FactFinder found on social media, the website provided for the Kansas Star Casino was kansas-star.com/ka. The official website for the Kansas Star Casino is kansasstar.boydgaming.com.
One viewer who alerted FactFinder about the scam reported seeing these fake ads almost daily. Although he had not clicked on them, he warns that the ads appear convincing enough that someone could easily mistake them for legitimate offers.
“They’re always new ones for new casinos,” said John Wray about the ads. ” It doesn’t matter what casino it is, if you click on it and deposit your money to become a winner, you’ll become a loser.”
Clicking on these fraudulent links could expose your phone or computer to malware or lead to financial loss if you provide your banking information. If you encounter an ad like this on social media and are unsure of its legitimacy, it’s advised to call the casino directly.
