The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission will not make a decision in the petition challenging Cedar Rapids casino efforts. This comes after commissioners heard oral arguments Thursday from both Riverside and Linn County lawyers.
The petition, filed by Riverside Casino and the Washington County Riverboat Foundation, claims the gambling vote in Linn County was worded incorrectly. It argues the 2021 ballot asked voters to “continue” gaming in the county, but gaming had not technically started.
The Linn County legal team argued the petition was filed “not in good faith” and it was “not a real petition.”
When the IRGC asked Riverside’s lawyer when the 2021 ballot wording was discovered to be allegedly invalid, he said they realized the error just before filing the petition in fall 2024.
