There will be a ribbon cutting as well as live entertainment and a drone show to celebrate the grand opening.

WAYLAND, Mich. — 13 ON YOUR SIDE got a behind-the-scenes look at the new hotel coming to Gun Lake Casino Resort the day before it opens.

The hotel officially opens to the public on March 7, but its been booking reservations in advance and was already fully booked for its first night.

Guests can book a standard room or opt for a Deluxe Suite. The Deluxe Suites offer a bar, powder room and living room as well as a larger floor plan.

If you decide to book a standard room, you can still enjoy its high-end finishes. Without a bar in your room, it just means you’ll have to wander down to the lobby to enjoy the new lobby bar.

Also in the lobby is the Sandhill Cafe. 13 ON YOUR SIDE spoke with the Gun Lake Tribe’s Tribal Chair and CEO, Sal Semola about the opening.

Semola said he’s hopeful the new hotel will open up Gun Lake to more people visiting from out of town.

“So having the hotel will obviously expand our geographic reach, and to a certain extent, also enhance our demographic appeal more so when the YA Oasis opens, that’s really going to not only impact the local community, if you will, in terms of another entertainment option, but because of the total package, we expect Chicago will be a good market for us Detroit as well. So our our market and level of potential business, if you will, expands dramatically during that time,” he said.

The tribe’s Tribal Chairman Bob Peters also emphasized the hotel’s roots in the Gun Lake Tribe and what the new hotel means for tribal visibility.

“This is a win for Indian country,” said Peters. “We have 574 tribes across the United States and every time we accomplish a project like this, it’s hope for everyone else, and it brings everyone, you know, tribal communities to the forefront, and really emphasizes our sovereignty and where we’re going.”

And while the hotel opens on Friday, the five-phase expansion project is not done yet. The Oasis and other new amenities will not open until later this year.

On Friday, there will be a ribbon cutting as well as live entertainment and a drone show to celebrate the grand opening.
