Northwest Indiana’s three casinos reported revenues of $67.4 million in February, a decrease of about 9.7% from the approximately $74.6 million reported for the same month last year, according to the Indiana Gaming Commission’s monthly gaming report.

Hard Rock Northern Indiana saw a decrease in earnings with about $34.4 million reported for February 2025 compared to $37.9 million reported in February 2024, according to the report.

Matt Schuffert, president of Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana, said February was much colder than last year, which impacts the way people go out for entertainment. But the Lunar New Year celebration that the casino held from January into February helped boost revenue, he said.

Additionally, February 2024 was a leap year, so that means last month had one day less of revenue, Schuffert said. As a casino that brings in about $1.2 million to $1.3 million a day, losing a day has the potential to impact revenue year over year.

“Not a total surprise that the market was down just based on the weather and just based on the leap year, year over year comparable,” Schuffert said. “As it is in the winter, you never know what you’re going to get from a weather perspective, and the weather got us this February a little bit more than it did last year.”

Ameristar Casino in East Chicago and Horseshoe Hammond reported decreases in revenue year over year in February.

Ameristar Casino reported $12.8 million in revenues in February 2025 and $15.1 million in revenues in February 2024. Horseshoe Hammond reported $20.2 million in revenues in February 2025 and $21.6 million in revenues in February 2024, according to the report.

Horseshoe Hammond reported an increase in revenue from January to February, while Hard Rock and Ameristar reported decreases within the same period.

Horseshoe Hammond reported $17.9 million in revenues in January and $20.2 million in revenues in February. Hard Rock reported revenues of $36.9 million in January and $34.4 million in revenues in February, while Ameristar reported $13.4 million in revenues in January and $12.8 million in revenues in February.

Horseshoe Hammond and Ameristar officials did not respond to requests for comment.

March is typically a busy month for the Hard Rock as the weather begins to improve and people go out more, Schuffert said. March is also the month entertainment begins to pick up ahead of the summer season, he said.

The St. Patrick’s Day weekend and the beginning of the National Collegiate Athletic Association March Madness tournament typically brings in higher attendance at the casino and its dining and bar amenities, Schuffert said.

“It’s early … but we expect March to come in as one of our top months of the year,” Schuffert said.
