West Side residents came to City Hall as a group, united in their calls for the city to shoot down a casino and massive renovation project that would be built over Hudson Yards West. Along with the casino, the project would feature 4,000 housing units and a 5.6-acre green space.
The updated plan differs significantly from the original 2009 version, which developers say is no longer financially viable.
Residents say the massive building will block light to the green space and the nearby highline. They also say a casino does not belong in the middle of a residential neighborhood.
Developers are pushing back, telling the City Council Subcommittee the benefits include billions in funds for the MTA, 30,000 construction jobs, and 4,000 new apartments.
