Jake’s 58 casino in Islandia is closed Wednesday while staff resolve an “unexpected issue,” Suffolk OTB president Phil Boyle said.
The casino was expected to reopen at 5 p.m., according to a statement on the Jake’s 58 website. An earlier notice said the casino would reopen at 1 p.m.
The issue was discovered at 7 a.m. Wednesday when staff reported to open the casino, Boyle said. The casino operates from 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. daily.
He did not elaborate on the unidentified problem.
“Jake’s 58 Casino Hotel is currently closed due to an unexpected issue that is impacting our ability to operate normally,” Boyle said in a text to Newsday. “We are diligently working on the issue and hope to open again later today.”
The website statement said the casino was closed for “system maintenance.”
The casino was evacuated for about two hours last September when workers fell ill from a “chemical smell,” officials said at the time.
Jake’s 58 is undergoing a $210 million expansion that includes 1,000 additional video gaming stations, hundreds more parking stalls and refurbished hotel rooms.
