TOPPENISH, Wash.– The celebrations continue for our very own sports director Alan Sillence ahead of his impending retirement.

He was celebrated at Legends Casino Hotel on Thursday, during the World Championship Boxing event.

“Alan, there will never be another one like you, you’re a true friend, a great broadcaster, and a first ballot hall of famer,” said Rich Austin, the director of sports development for the Yakima Valley Sports Commission.

“We’re gonna present him with a little gift of appreciation, for his retirement and for just being a great guy to us and to all the people that participate in these types of sports,” said Jerry Meninick, the deputy director for culture for the Yakama Nation

The gift of appreciation Alan was given was a blanket.

“When we honor others within our own people, and we do it with those kind of gifts especially for men, we present them with a blanket,” Meninick said. “It’s a momentum keepsake for them to remember, that the tribe was listening.”

This is one of now several recognitions and celebrations that Alan has received.

“To be honest I was so at first surprised, and now it just it keeps going and I’m just overwhelmed you never know how much of an impact you’ve made until people do this kind of thing like oh wow! It’s amazing,” Alan said.

“It’s just incredible the support I’ve gotten from the community and they have it done here at Legends, one of my favorite places they put on the greatest shows in the valley, and I thank you to Legends and thank you to everybody once again love you all.”
