Murder suspect to be sentenced for 2014 casino shooting in Delano

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A murder suspect, Carlos Augusto Reveles, is scheduled to appear in court next month for sentencing after pleading no contest to charges related to a 2014 shooting that left 47-year-old David Medina dead, according to court records. The incident happened in the parking lot of the Aviator Casino in Delano. RELATED: Man arrested on suspicion of murder in casino parking lot Reveles was initially arrested in August 2014, accused of killing Medina during a fight in the Aviator Casino parking lot that escalated into gunfire on August 9, 2014. Delano police officers responded to the scene and found Medina had been shot multiple times. Kern County District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer released a statement in 2019 following Reveles’ re-arrest: “Murder cases do not have a statute of limitations, and we are committed to working with police agencies to investigate homicides for as long as it takes to develop the evidence needed for prosecution.” Reveles had been released in 2015 pending the review of lab evidence. He was later re-arrested in 2019. According to Kern County Superior Court records, Reveles pleaded no contest on April 1 and is set to appear for sentencing on May 22. Source link
The latest threats to casino security use technology as the weapon, panel says — CDC Gaming

Rather than going to the cage and demanding money at gunpoint or stealing a huge stack of chips from a table, criminals continually find new ways to rob casinos. “Navigating Emerging Threats in Casino Gaming” was a lead-off session Tuesday at the Indian Gaming Tradeshow & Convention in San Diego. The panel explored the rise of sophisticated criminal tactics, with an increasing reliance on technology, that poses significant challenges to casino operations. Panelists outlined the need for extensive cooperation, constant vigilance, and enhanced awareness among casino management, security teams, surveillance professionals, and regulators to prevent from being victimized and outsmarted by cunning adversaries. The panel was moderated by Dave Vialpando, executive director of the Pala Gaming Commission. Panelists included George Jenkot, vice president of security and surveillance with the Firekeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek, Michigan, and Rudolph Wambsgans, chairman of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribal Gaming Commission in Mississippi. The conviction in January of a Chicago man for stealing $700,000 from Four Winds Casino in Michigan in July 2023 was presented as evidence. A Four Winds employee who handles cash was tricked into stuffing $700,000 in cash into a designer bag and driving 85 miles to Gary, Indiana. Calls and texts made the person appear to be a tribal official for the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. Authorities recovered $18,000 from a home safe of the perpetrator. That scam was used in Nevada and other western states that year. Casinos face both internal and external threats, according to Vialpando, former executive director for the Michigan tribe at the center of the social-engineering scam. The external threats may come from individuals or organized groups that include remote and coordinated attacks. “Don’t underestimate the level of organization and sophistication of these groups in targeting our casinos,” Vialpando said. The internal threats are perpetrated by employees, sometimes colluding with outsiders. These include theft, embezzlement, cheating, workplace violence, and property damage. “We’re always thinking about anything that could affect live gaming, like cheats. Anything anybody gives up to the operation’s advantage is a huge problem mathematically,” Jenkot said. Wambsgans cited an incident in which an employee was charged with colluding with an outsider to steal from the casino. She was accused of putting points on the players card of a friend worth hundreds of thousands of dollars over more than a year. “The external threat can be huge. But from my experience, the internal threat is more a concern,” Wambsgans said. “The ongoing internal threat by employees in collusion with outsiders is a greater threat, because that’s happening almost daily.” Jenkot said it starts with weaknesses within the process between internal controls and uninformed gaming regulations. They had a table games dealer prosecuted for dumping games to friends valued at $16,000 over a couple of weekends. “Ever since COVID, a lot of properties are hiring people they wouldn’t have even interviewed before,” Jenkot said. “It gives you an idea of what we’re dealing with in an area of control like surveillance. That creates a huge vulnerability. When it comes to employee collusion, obviously, substandard surveillance employees not only cause weaknesses in catching collusion, but can actually be bad actors themselves.” Vialpando said while some operators see the regulators as a nuisance, they’re there to maintain high standards. Most of the policies were created because something bad happened and was recognized as a vulnerability. “It’s a challenge today to find qualified individuals and we do have pressure,” Vialpando said. “They’re sending us people who just don’t meet the level of qualification necessary to be licensed.” Wambsgans said when vulnerabilities are discovered, it’s important to communicate them effectively and stress that tribal assets must be protected. Suspect in deadly North Las Vegas casino shooting, multiple carjackings faces 28 charges

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The man accused of a deadly shooting at Aliante Casino, then leading police on a high-speed pursuit, will face 28 felony charges. Aerion Warmsley, 19, appeared in a North Las Vegas Justice Court courtroom Tuesday morning before Judge Belinda Harris, where he was formally charged with the felonies. Court records reveal some of those charges he is facing, including murder with a deadly weapon, several robbery and burglary charges, along with battery charges. The charges stem from a March 27 crime spree that started with a murder on the casino floor and ended with an arrest at the intersection of Sahara and Boulder Highway. Warmsley also carjacked three separate vehicles throughout the ordeal. Warmsley and an unidentified person fled the casino in a stolen Mercedes sedan. Police have yet to identify the man who took off on foot after crashing into another vehicle at Spring Mountain Road and Procyon Street, right off the I-15 freeway. The charges continue to pile up for the suspect. On Tuesday, the Clark County District Attorney’s Office filed three additional charges of kidnapping, coercion and domestic battery. FOX5 is working to find out the background on these new charges out of the Las Vegas Justice Court. Warmsley will be in front of a Las Vegas judge Wednesday morning on the kidnapping charges. He has another appearance in North Las Vegas on Thursday. Copyright 2025 KVVU. All rights reserved. Source link
Mets Owners Are Already Drilling at Citi Field — Without NYC Casino Bid Settled

A state board is still months away from selecting up to three locations for New York City-area casinos but some bidders are rolling the dice as if they’ve already won — with a boost from state lawmakers. Last month, the owners of the Mets, who want to put an entertainment complex anchored by a casino next to Citi Field, began “exploratory boring” in at least two places to prepare for construction. THE CITY spotted the heavy drilling in at least two places in the parking lot, which is legally park land that only the state can authorize for development — currently barring it from being used for the casino plan team owner Steve Cohen has pitched as a major economic boost for Queens. But his bet could pay off. On Sunday, State Sen. John Liu — a former foe of gambling in his backyard — announced he would introduce a bill this week that would allow development on the section of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park near Citi Field where Cohen has pitched his “Metropolitan Park” casino project. A day later, two Bronx lawmakers, State Sen. Nathalia Fernandez and Assemblymember Michael Benedetto, announced they would introduce an alienation bill this week in the legislature for Bally’s proposed casino at Ferry Point Park. Credit: Katie Honan/THE CITY These two projects are among nearly a dozen vying for one of the downstate casino licenses, which are expected to be announced late this year after the three-member Gaming Facility Location Board makes recommendations to the New York State Gaming Commission. The Flushing and Thoggs Neck sites are the only ones that require state-level authorization to build on park — known as parkland alienation. The Mets’s home ballpark and the surrounding parking lots, for example, are technically part of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. Can’t Beat Em, Join Em Liu told THE CITY on Monday he is still opposed to gambling and casinos — last year, he co-wrote an op-ed critical of casinos preying on predominantly Asian communities — but has conceded that they will be built no matter what. And if billionaire Mets owner Cohen gets his dream of one of three downstate licenses, Liu’s vision of a pedestrian walkway over Flushing Creek may come true, too, he said. “If I really had my druthers I would have voted no against any casino licensing, but the casino licenses are a reality,” he said. “There’s going to be three casinos nearby anyway and there are lots of people in favor,” he said, adding that Cohen’s team was “vigorous” in their push for his sign-on — even though his district is merely adjacent to the one where the casino would be located. “The support in my community — notwithstanding my warnings — far outweighs and outnumbers the few who are opposed.” Liu’s bill would function as companion legislation to the one introduced last month by Queens Assemblymember Larinda Hooks, who does represent the parcel of land that needs to be alienated. Neighborhood advocates rally at the Flushing Public Library against the proposed casino next to Citi Field, March 28, 2025. Credit: Katie Honan/THE CITY The state senator for the Metropolitan Park parcel, State. Sen. Jessica Ramos, remains opposed to a casino, telling THE CITY on Monday her position hadn’t changed. (Ramos is also a candidate for mayor and spoke about the casino plan on the FAQ NYC podcast.) “I cannot support a casino in Corona and am a definitive no on any alienation bill that goes against my neighbors’ wishes,” she said in a statement. Liu’s bill goes against what’s known as member deference — an informal tradition where the legislator whose district is affected by a project gets to determine its future. But he said there was enough local support, including the City Council voting unanimously earlier this month to back a city-issued land-use change that would allow casino-related development on the Mets’ parking lot. Pie in the Skypark The idea for a “Skypark” pedestrian bridge began under former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, as part of the city’s failed bid to host the 2012 Olympics, Liu noted. In a signed grant agreement between Cohen’s team and Liu shared with THE CITY, the bridge would cross west of 39th Avenue over Flushing Creek, providing pedestrian and cycling access between the bustling downtown Flushing and the new separate development at Willets Point. Like every promised improvement tied to the casino bid, it only happens if Cohen and Hard Rock receive a casino license. Even then, the grand design would require approvals from a host of city and state agencies, including the Department of Transportation, the Parks Department, Department of Environmental Protection, and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the grant agreement shows. If the Metropolitan Park casino complex is built and the Skypark is found to be either not feasible or delayed within six years — and doesn’t secure enough private and public funding — Cohen and company will have to pay out $100 million in annual $10 million installments to Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, the agreement says. Even without the necessary approvals, Cohen’s casino group has already begun scoping work for future construction. Last month, construction workers conducted “exploratory boring” — drilling — on at least two locations in the Citi Field parking lot, with permission from the Department of Parks and Recreation. The drills were gone this weekend, a few days before the Mets’ opening day. Some community groups across Queens are still opposed to the proposed Citi Field casino and organized a protest Friday in front of the Flushing branch of the Queens Library. Rebecca Pryor, the executive director of the environmental group Guardians of Flushing Bay, said at the rally that the promised 20-acre park is “not an investment in public park land.” Alexis Kaloyanides from Jackson Heights Indivisible said at the rally the casino is portrayed as “an economic engine that’s going to fund all the nice

April Fools! There’s still only one Ocean at this casino — CDC Gaming

Tuesday, April 1, 2025 2:34 PM Image aggregated from The Press of Atlantic City. Wayne Parry, The Press of Atlantic City Email, LinkedIn, and more Since it opened in 2018, many people have misstated the name of Ocean Casino Resort, adding an “S” to the end of it and calling it “Oceans.” This persisted for years, particularly on social media, despite the casino’s best efforts to set the record straight. Part of it undoubtedly was familiarity with and affinity for the “Oceans” series of movies starring George Clooney and an all-star cast of casino burglars. So when a video popped up Tuesday morning showing the word “Oceans” on the side of the building, many people had their “I told you so!” moment. Alas, it was a forgery, posted by the casino as an April Fools’ Day prank. “For years we’ve been correcting people who called it ‘Oceans,’” said Brian Brennan, a spokesman for the casino. Source link
Henderson’s $32M Fiesta Casino Site Plans Hit Snag as Developer Talks Fall Through

Henderson, Nevada officials said Friday that talks with the Woodbury Corporation over the redevelopment of the site of the old Fiesta Henderson casino have officially concluded without an accord. The Exclusive Negotiating Agreement (ENA) that was entered into by the parties has expired, releasing both from any further obligations with respect to the project. “Despite best efforts and good-faith discussions over the past several months, the two parties have been unable to come to a definitive agreement regarding the future development, purchase, and use of the property,” wrote the city of Henderson in a project review. “Both parties are now fully released from any further obligations under its [ENA] terms. The City and RDA [Redevelopment Agency] appreciate the collaborative efforts with Woodbury Corporation throughout this process.” The site, purchased by the city for over $30 million, has remained vacant since the Fiesta Henderson casino closed in July 2022 and was demolished that September, with only the parking structure still standing. Residents have expressed frustration about the site’s vacant state, with locals, including Darcel Lang, saying they were disappointed and hoped for redevelopment. Even with negotiations on hold, city leaders say they are still focused on plans for a tournament sports facility with an attached hotel. A Vision Document released in January 2024 shows the need for a “destination” space, and community and resident feedback indicated arts and cultural venues and family-oriented entertainment ranked highest in priorities. The top concept among residents and other local stakeholders was for that tournament sports facility and hospitality combined with year-round family attractions. The city is moving forward with the fieldhouse project within the framework of the broken agreement, though it is clear now that the city will be independent of the future hotel partner development through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process. Conversations are also ongoing to find an operator for the proposed fieldhouse. No definitive construction timeline has been disclosed, though city leaders reiterated their commitment to realizing the community’s vision and expressed hope for a restart sometime soon. Source link
Caesars Southern Indiana Casino Workers Vote To Strike

Over 140 workers at Caesars Southern Indiana Hotel & Casino have voted by a 98 percent margin to authorize a strike. The vote came shortly after management’s refusal to offer a fair contract, according to the unions. The hotel-casino workers are represented by Teamsters Local 89 and Operating Engineers Local 399. “Our members are united and ready to fight for the strongest possible agreement,” said Avral Thompson, President of Local 89. “This vote sends a clear message — we will not back down. If management won’t negotiate in good faith, we’re prepared to take action.” Caesars Southern Indiana, owned and operated by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), generated more than $240 million in revenue last year. Since the facility is one of the most profitable hotel-casinos in the Hoosier State, long-term employees are demanding a fair contract. “I’ve worked at Caesars for over seven years, and we deserve a contract that values our hard work and dedication,” said Sandra Ramirez, a slot attendant at Caesars Southern Indiana and a member of Local 89. “No one wants to strike, but if management keeps disrespecting us at the bargaining table, we’re ready to demand what we’ve earned.” Workers Demand Fair Retirement Benefits Despite months of contract negotiations, management at Caesars Southern Indiana continues to refuse to offer “fair retirement benefits” and improve working conditions inside the facility. Teamsters said the next move is entirely up to Caesars’ management. “At this point, the ball is entirely in management’s court,” said Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman. “If Caesars faces a strike, management will have no one to blame but themselves for the fallout. We stand ready to back our members every step of the way.” Caesars Southern Indiana is located at 11999 Casino Center Drive in Elizabeth, Indiana. The hotel-casino has 503 hotel rooms, a full-service Caesars Sportsbook for betting, fine dining at Gordon Ramsay Steak, and 110,000 square feet of gaming space for slots and table games. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters was founded in 1903. The union represents 1.3 million hardworking people in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Teamsters started as a merger of the two leading team driver associations. Jose Del Pozo Jose is an iGaming analyst with wide experience within the sector. Macau casino operators position for Thailand’s gaming market as legalization advances

Major Macau casino operators, including Melco Resorts & Entertainment, MGM Resorts International, and Galaxy Entertainment Group, are emerging as leading contenders for potential gaming licenses in Thailand, according to a White Paper released by Winna Media. Thailand’s cabinet has advanced the Ministry of Finance’s Entertainment Complex (EC) bill to Parliament, a move that could establish the country as a major gaming hub alongside Macau and Las Vegas. If legalised, the Thai gaming market could generate up to $9.1 billion in annual revenue by 2031, a Citigroup report estimates. The bill is currently under parliamentary review and must be approved by Thailand’s House of Representatives, Senate, and receive final endorsement from King Rama X before becoming law. Anticipating market entry, Melco Resorts has already opened an office in Bangkok and is building a team in Thailand. “Thailand’s emerging gambling market is a generational opportunity that probably happens once every century,” said Lawrence Ho, CEO & Chairman of Melco. Galaxy Entertainment plans to send a team to assess the market, while MGM Resorts has also expressed interest. Other global operators, including Las Vegas Sands, Genting Singapore, and Wynn (through its U.S. operations), are also reportedly exploring opportunities in the Kingdom. “The biggest hurdle we hear is refining the regulatory aspects of the bill so the major players can enter the market with confidence,” said Rosalind Wade, CEO of Winna Media. The legislative timeline remains uncertain, with two possible scenarios: • If the bill passes by April 10, 2025, the market could see an immediate surge in activity. • If the bill is delayed, casino operators will likely intensify lobbying efforts and negotiations ahead of the next parliamentary session. With Thailand’s potential as a gaming hub, Macau operators see strategic opportunities for cross-market investment. “We see a certain Macau-Thailand synergy as the hottest vein to tap into,” Wade added.
