Seven years ago, the Supreme Court of the United States of America took a bold step in striking down a federal ban on sports betting across the country, and that action has proved decisive.

The accessibility of sports betting has jumped sky high, with 39 US states, the District of Colombia and Puerto Rico having legalised sports betting in some form. The American Gaming Association (AGA) stated in its State of the States 2024 report that, in 2023, the regulated US sports betting market generated a total revenue of US$11.04bn, not including operations in tribal casinos.
