DES PLAINES, IL — A Rosemont man found asleep behind the wheel of his car at Rivers Casino Sunday morning was in possession of cocaine, a felony charge. According to Des Plaines police, Bozhidar Kunov, 30, is accused of felony possession of a controlled substance, as well as a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of an intoxicating compound.
Kunov, who was released following his arrest, was also ticketed for operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and illegal transportation or possession of alcoholic liquor by a driver.
Police responded to the casino at 3000 S. River Road at around 7:05 a.m. for the report of a male, later identified as Kunov, asleep in a vehicle. Police met with the security manager, who indicated where the vehicle was.
Soon thereafter, police found a Jeep Cherokee with Florida license plates with Kunov asleep behind the wheel. Police discovered the vehicle had struck an SUV in the parking lot. The jeep was turned off at the time and had tree branches stuck underneath as well as leaking fluid.
As the police approached Kunov, they said he woke and appeared confused as to what was happening. The officer requested his driver’s license, which he was unable to provide. The officer noted that Kunov was shaking and jittery, with dilated pupils.
A small jar was seen in the middle console with a white powdery substance in it, suspecting it to be cocaine. Due to the jar in plain view, Kunov was asked to step out of the vehicle and a search was conducted, yielding an open bottle of liquor. The officer suspected that Kunov was under the influence of a drug, and a department drug recognition expert was requested to the scene.
Testing indicated that Kunov was under the influence and was taken into custody. Kunov and the recovered items were taken to the Des Plaines Police station, where the officer used a Narcotics Identification Kit on the white substance. This resulted in a finding of the probable presence of cocaine in the white substance.
