DEMING, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Demolition of a former tribal casino is underway.
The Nooksack Indian Tribe announced that work on the former Nooksack River Casino building in Deming began on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
The casino opened in the late 1990’s but was forced to close in 2015 after struggling with debts related to a building upgrade. Conversations surrounding the demolition were held for tribal and community members late last year.
Nooksack Tribal Council is discouraging people from watching the demolition due to safety concerns.
It’s unclear what will be rebuilt on the property in the future.
