While gambling in Colorado is restricted to three towns, that’s in regards to legal gambling. What are the odds that there are illegal ones floating around the state.
Is There an Illegal Casino in Northern Colorado?
Part of me feels that I’d have to be a fool to think that there’s no way that an illegal gambling “casino” exists in Loveland; the other part of me wants to keep my “rose colored glasses” view of the Sweetheart City.

Is there, behind one of the doors of Downtown Loveland, an illegal gambling casino?
In May of 2024, the Colorado Division of Gambling initiated a campaign to discourage the creation of illegal gambling operations. In September of 2024, according to Denver 7, there was a large bust of an illegal casino operating in Colorado, from Greeley to Pueblo.
How Do Illegal Casinos Work?
According to the Denver 7 report, “gamblers” would win credits on devices that look like arcade games or virtual slot machines, which they’d turn in for cryptocurrency. Then in turn, they’d convert the “crypto” to cash with an ATM nearby.

The Denver man who was arrested for operating the illegal gambling business in 2024, could have gone to prison for 10 years, but was only sentenced to one year and one day. That’s a pretty big risk, but then the reward was probably worth it.

That particular operation made the locations appear to be arcades, with the gambling on the “Downlow,” as they say. What about an operation that was more of a “speakeasy” operation?
Does an Illegal Gambling Casino Exist In Loveland?
In May of 2025, there was speculation that there was an “underground” casino, behind closed doors, operating in the Downtown Loveland area. While the idea of a “speakeasy casino” does sound like fun, there’s no way I’d step foot inside, if I were to find out where the casino was.

It’s too risky for my blood. Sure, maybe it’s only a “petty” offense if I were to get caught gambling there, but I have a hard enough time losing at the “social gambling” that friends and I do; losing at an illegal operation would just hit hard.
