PETERSBURG, Va. (WWBT) – Petersburg City Council and the city’s planning commission have given the green light for final zoning permits for Live! Casino Resort.
This approval means that construction can start for the multi-phased casino and hotel.
Back in November, about 80% of Petersburg residents voted yes to allow a casino to operate in the city.

“We got an overwhelming result,” Petersburg Mayor Sam Parham said after the election. “It’s really gratifying. It really shows what can happen when mayor and city council come together as a unit.”
The project is expected to generate $2.8 billion – including $240 million to the city alone.
In its first 10 years, developers anticipate the casino will bring over 7,500 new construction and permanent jobs.
The project is expected to feature:
- More than 400,000 square feet of first-class gaming, hotel and dining space
- 35,000 square feet of meeting and convention space
- An upscale 200-room hotel featuring 20 suites, a resort pool and a fitness center
- 1,600 state-of-the-art slot machines
- 46 live-action table games, including a 15-table poker room
- High-limit slot and table areas and a sportsbook
- A 3,000-seat state-of-the-art entertainment venue
- 8 food and entertainment options, including 3 spaces reserved for Petersburg restauranteurs and businesses
- Free surface parking
The Live! Casino Resort is slated to be on 92 acres near the intersection of Wagner Road and Brasfield Parkway.
