The Mississippi House of Representatives is now poised to debate a bill that would establish state support for a casino resort in Jackson, the state capital.

On Wednesday, the House Ways and Means Committee advanced House Bill 1879, which would establish the authority for a developer to construct a casino hotel resort within 6,000 feet of the Mississippi State Capitol.

This would place the project within the Capitol Complex Improvement District.

Among other things, the bill would establish the authority for a casino to be located in Jackson. That casino would have to owned by someone who already owns or operates a casino and would require them to invest $500 million.
