On March 21, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and the city of Taunton signed a new agreement regarding the Taunton casino project.

The “memorandum of agreement” clears the way for the tribe, and potentially the city, to start collecting revenue from the welcome center opened by the tribe in January.

The welcome center originally had 10 gaming machines and the revenue from the gaming machines went to charity, but the welcome center has since been expanded to 50 slot machines and the tribe can now collect revenue from them.

The pact says the tribe intends to obtain financing for a larger casino project “during the first half of calendar year 2025.”
