Mechoopda Casino

CHICO, CA – The Mechoopda Indian Tribe announced that the Mechoopda Economic Gaming Authority (MEGA) Board has made the difficult decision to suspend operations at the Mechoopda Casino. The casino’s last day of operation will be Friday, January 31, 2025.

The decision was reached after months of careful deliberation and efforts to address the challenges impacting the casino’s operations. Despite recent progress in some areas, external factors have made it unsustainable to continue operations at this time.

“Suspending operations at the casino is a heart-wrenching decision that affects not only our tribe, but also our valued employees, customers, and the surrounding community,” said Dennis Ramirez, Tribal Chairman of the Mechoopda Indian Tribe. “While this chapter is closing, our commitment to the casino’s long-term vision remains steadfast. For over 25 years, this project has been a cornerstone of our economic development goals, and we will continue to work toward its future reopening.”

Although the exact timeline for reopening has not been determined, the MEGA Board and Tribal leadership are actively planning for the future. The Tribe remains dedicated to its mission of fostering economic development and creating opportunities for its members and the broader community.

The Mechoopda Indian Tribe is taking steps to support its employees and community partners during this transition. The casino will remain open through January 31, 2025, providing guests the opportunity to enjoy the remaining days of operation. Updates about future plans will be shared on the casino’s website and social media platforms.

“This decision is undoubtedly a challenging moment for our tribe, but we remain resilient and committed to overcoming this setback,” said Chairman Ramirez. “Our tribe has faced challenges before and emerged stronger. We are confident in our ability to do so again.”
