Online casino was responsible for DKK331 million of all gambling revenue in Denmark during April.
Gambling revenue in Denmark increased by 11.6% year-on-year to DKK665 million (€89 million/$103 million) in April, driven by growth in the country’s online casino market.
Revenue in April was comfortably ahead of DKK596 million in the same month last year, data from regulator Spillemyndigheden revealed. It also surpassed the DKK635 million posted in March this year.
Online casino was again the main source of gambling revenue at DKK331 million, up 21.4% from April 2024. This was also the highest monthly total since DKK347 million was reported in December last year.
Slots accounted for 78.9% of all online casino revenue, ahead of blackjack on 6.6% and roulette 6.4%. Remaining revenue was spread across poker, bingo and other games.
Sports betting revenue also increased year-on-year, rising 6.1% to DKK207 million. Of this, 70.8% came from mobile betting, 15% desktop computers and 14.2% betting shops.
Land-based revenue declines in Denmark
Turning to the land-based market, slot machines were the largest revenue source within this sector. However, the DKK93 million reported in April was 3.6% behind last year’s total. Slot machines in gambling halls drew 79.7% of revenue here, with restaurant machines collecting the other 20.3%.
Meanwhile, land-based casino revenue in Denmark was 2.5% lower year-on-year at DKK31 million. However, this was the market’s best monthly total since DKK35 million was posted last December.
The remaining DKK3 million was attributed to land-based bingo, with year-on-year data not available for this sector.
ROFUS registrations exceed 60,000
Spillemyndigheden also published an update on the country’s ROFUS national self-exclusion scheme.
By the end of April, some 60,325 people had signed up to the initiative. Of these, 78.3% are male and 21.7% female, with 64.3% of all registrants opting for permanent exclusion.
On top of this, StopSpillet, a service providing advice and guidance to those concerned over their gambling habits, took 50 calls during April.
