QUAD CITIES, Iowa/Ill. (KWQC) – A potential Cedar Rapids casino project could have a major impact on the Quad Cities.

President and CEO of Visit Quad Cities, Dave Herrell, says casino partners in the region have been, and continue to be, economic development engines and have fueled jobs, community-positioning opportunities, and directly support quality of life initiatives through the revenue they produce.

Adding just one new casino in Iowa will absolutely erode the resources our region needs to be successful and will put numerous non-profits at risk. Not to mention, it will impact our gaming industry, our hospitality industry, and will impact jobs,” Harrell said.

On November 20 during a public comment session at an Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission meeting, Herrell says he did stress that he wants to see his colleagues and friends in the Cedar Rapids area thrive but not at the expense of communities throughout Iowa along with an industry that is already saturated in a hyper-competitive space at the national level.

Harrell says he urges the members of the Iowa Raciing & Gaming Commussion to strongly consider their decision as they review a presentation and study on Thursday and vote on Feb. 6.
