CARTER LAKE, IA (KTIV) – Members of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska cut the ribbon Monday, officially opening the expanded Prairie Flower Casino in Carter Lake, Iowa.
The new casino is seven times larger than the old building.
Inside, there are 600 slot machines, a sports book and electronic table games. Ponca tribal members say this casino provides funding that supports critical tribal programs.
“The tribe itself has twenty resources and services. Then we provide not only to Ponca tribal members, but Native Americans that live within our service delivery area. So, housing health care, three health care clinics, we’re hoping to expand here in Omaha and Omaha metro area so, all of that goes back to that,” said Ponca Tribe of Nebraska Chairwoman Candace Schmidt.
Gaming at Prairie Flower has provided $4.6 million to Carter Lake.
That money was used on projects to support the community, as well as the police and fire departments.
