The gaming department said it had received multiple reports of “fraudulent” online casinos.
PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Gaming is warning local consumers to be suspicious of advertisements for illegitimate online casino games.
In a statement released Monday, the state agency said it had received multiple reports of “fraudulent” online casinos in Arizona. Online casinos, also known as igaming, are not legal in the Grand Canyon State.
Scammers are apparently utilizing misleading ads on social media to entice consumers to spend money on illegitimate games. Fraudulent websites will be created to mimic the names and brands of legitimate casinos.
The gaming department is typically unable to help recover funds for complaints involving unregulated gaming sites, placing players in Arizona at a financial risk.
Anyone in Arizona who believes they’ve come across suspected illegal gambling activity to file a report with the gaming department. The agency maintains a list on its website of legal casinos operating within the state.
