CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Wednesday marks three weeks since a hearing was held regarding a petition filed by Riverside Casino challenging the Linn County gaming license.
Despite the case being fast-tracked, a judge has yet to make a decision, which was expected shortly after the hearing.
Riverside Casino has been vocal in its opposition to Cedar Rapids obtaining a casino license from the start.
The Riverside argues the state board lacked the legal authority to approve the license due to a miswording in the county’s 2021 vote to continue gambling, despite there being no existing gambling facilities at the time.
Meanwhile, construction continues on the Cedar Crossing Casino, which is scheduled to open on December 31, 2026.
