WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Two people was killed and 11 others were injured in a crash on the Kansas Turnpike early Thursday.
The crash happened just after midnight near the Kansas Star Casino exit on southbound I-35 in Sumner County. The turnpike reopened at around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
A van with a trailer overturned in the southbound lanes. A second vehicle attempted to avoid a crash but struck the van.
According to the KHP crash log, 58-year-old Ernestina Eumana of Minneapolis, Minn., and a passenger in the van, was killed. A child who was a passenger in the van was also killed.
An initial report from Mulvane Fire and Rescue said one person was killed. It said a semi hauling cattle was involved in the crash, but the KHP crash long did not list that as one of the vehicles in the crash.
Seven other people in the van sustained at least minor injuries. Three people in the other vehicle, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, had minor injuries.
