Illinois casinos generated $176.5 million in adjusted gross receipts in May, up 22.7% year-over-year, boosted by the opening of two casinos.

Of the 17 casinos that reported AGR to the Illinois Gaming Control Board, 13 saw revenues increase year-over-year.

New casinos accounted for about 61% of the difference in AGR between May 2024 and May 2025. Wind Creek Illinois, launched in April, generated $18.6 million in AGR. It was the state’s second-highest generator of AGR, behind the $45.5 million from Rivers Casino. Meanwhile, Fairmount Park Casino & Racing added another $1.2 million and also opened its doors in April.

The casino with the most significant total AGR growth was Hard Rock Casino, which increased by 101.5% year-over-year. Several other casinos saw major AGR increases, like Golden Nugget Danville, which rose 31%, and Walker’s Bluff Casino Resort, which jumped 25.6%.

Most of the AGR was generated by electronic gaming devices, totaling $132.9 million, up 24% year-over-year. Table games added $43.6 million, up 19.1%.

Illinois gambling has been in the spotlight recently, although mainly for sports betting. A tax increase has encouraged operators like DraftKings to add a surcharge to wagers in the state.
